Manaus - Belém trip - Amazon, AM

Take the multiday journey from Manaus to Belém. Belém (Bethlehem) was originally founded in 1616 as a fort, and had its heyday during the rubber boom. One of the main attractions in this elegant port city is the large Ver-O-Peso market as well as the botanical gardens. The downstream journey takes about four days, and on it you will experience the sights and sounds that only an Amazonian river can give you, not to mention interaction with river dwellers and indigenous peoples. The Spanish conquistador, Francisco Orellana, made the same journey almost 500 years ago, proving that the Atlantic could be reached by river from the Andes mountains. You have the option of taking this fantastic journey on a large catamaran or riverboat.

Jacaré watching - Amazon, AM

After dark, we can go on an “alligator flashing” trip in some of the area's small, narrow creeks – we’ll see jacarés up close as they stare into the lights of the guide’s flashlight (yes, this is safe, for us and them). In the nocturnal world of the jungle, a completely different array of wildlife appears – you’ll never forget your experience here.

Macuco Safari - Iguazu Falls, PR

The best way to enjoy Iguazu Falls. The tour is 2 hours long. It includes a ride and a walking trail down the Forest until reaching the river. In the river, a boat ride will take you to under the Garganta do Diablo (The Devil's Throat).

Lagoa Encantada - Ilhéus, BA

Large (4 sq. km) mirror lake in a protected area. A local boat will take you to explore the lake and along several points of the lakeshore, where dozens of bird species can be spotted on the edge of the Atlantic Forest growth. Local legends detail floating islands and singing Jesuit ghosts and other phenomena (hence the name encantada, or enchanted).

Marimbus - Lençóis, BA

This area is known as Chapada Diamantina's "Pantanal." Several rivers interconnect area lakes. We can travel here in canoe to explore the area, just like in Mato Grosso's vast Pantanal wetlands region. The canoe trip ends up at Rio Roncador (the Snoring River) where there are pools and a waterfall.
