Day
1 - Departure
an overnight flight from Miami or New York to Rio de janeiro.
Day
2 - Rio
de Janeiro - After our flight arrives, we will be met at the airport
and transferred to our hotel on Copacabana Beach. You'll have
time to check in and rest. Around midday we'll depart for a city
tour, going downtown to visit the Cathedral, known as the Church
of the Candelaria, built by the Portuguese in the late 1700s in
Baroque style. The two dome-topped towers of Rio's largest church
rise over 230 feet above the urban jungle. Next, we'll tour the
beaches of Copacabana, Flamengo and Ipanema (remember the famous
Bossa Nova song "Girl from Ipanema"?). We will stop for a ride
at the Sugar Loaf with the famous Cable Car where you will have
a view of this beautiful city and the sea below. In the evening,
go out on the town, or optionally attend a wonderful Samba show
at the Plataforma (the best in the city!). Overnight in Rio.
Day 3 - Rio de Janeiro - Free
day at your leisure in Rio to explore on your own or go on to
an optional boat tour to the Tropical Island nearby. Overnight
in Rio de Janeiro.
Day
4 -
Rio de Janeiro - Spend time taking in some more sights of Rio
or relax at your leisure on the beach. We can arrange an optional
tour to Corcovado Mountain, which towers 2000 feet over the city.
Combine this with an excursion to the Tijuca Forest, a tropical
forest area covering over 40 square miles; it is the majestic
remnant of the rainforest that once surrounded Rio. We'll see
waterfalls, a colonial chapel, lagoons, caves and a botanical
garden in Tijuca. Overnight in Rio de Janeiro.
Day
5 - Rio
to Iguazu Falls - We'll proceed to the airport for our morning
flight to Iguazu. Spend the whole day visiting Iguazu Falls, truly
one of the world's greatest natural wonders. The Falls consist
of 275 waterfalls cascading over a precipice into the Paraná River.
They are produced by waters of the Iguaçu River, the source of
which is near Curitiba. We'll go on a guided tour of the Falls
from the Brazilian side. Exotic birds and butterflies can be seen
at close range in the verdant araucaria evergreen forest. For
entertainment, there's the so-called "Three Nation Show," a dinner
show with dancers from Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay, or go to
the Teatro Plaza, a fine choice to see a colorful folkloric show
with wonderfully costumed dancers. Overnight at Iguazu Falls.
Day
6 -
Iguazu Falls - The best view of the Falls is afforded from the
Brazilian side, in the crisp morning air. You'll never forget
the sight of the cascading water and the roar of the Falls. Optional
tours include taking the Macuco, a boat ride through the waterfalls,
or a ½ hour helicopter flight over the Falls, an exhilarating
event. Or, cross the border to Argentina; the flora and fauna
are best observed on the Argentine side. If interested, you can
go to see Itaipu, the world's largest hydroelectricity plant.
The plant, on which construction began in the early '70s, is considered
a multibillion dollar fiasco, but a very impressive one nonetheless.
Buses depart hourly for free guided tours of the plant, which
are fascinating. In the evening, we can opt to attend a lavish
dinner show performed by international dancers in colorful garb.
Overnight at Iguazu Falls.
Day
7 -
Iguazu Falls to Rio -
Departure - Your morning will be free. In the afternoon, depart
to the airport for your flight back to Rio to connect with your
international flight back home. We're sure you'll want to come
back to visit this paradise on Earth soon.
